The Source of Matcha Provisions

Experience the difference of true quality. Our matcha, rooted in 160 years of Uji, Kyoto tradition, is meticulously shade-grown, stone-ground, and delivered directly to you.

Uji, Kyoto: Japan's Most Revered Tea Region

Matcha Provisions sources exclusively from suppliers in Kyoto — one of Japan's longest-standing and most respected matcha producers. Their production facilities sits in Ujitawara, a sub-region of Uji, which has been considered Japan's premier matcha-growing area for centuries.

The Uji region's climate consists of cool mountain air, river mist, and rich soil, creating ideal conditions for shading the tea plants, concentrating chlorophyll and amino acids that give premium matcha its signature depth and sweetness.

 Standards You Can Trust

Our matcha is cultivated and produced under strict standards, complying with international food safety regulations across all markets we serve. Certifications and standards include:

• Organic JAS Certification (Japan Agricultural Standard)

• Compliance with international pesticide residue limits and food safety requirements

• Strict internal quality control at every stage: cultivation, harvest, processing, and milling

Every batch is tested before it leaves Japan. This system allows customers worldwide to receive matcha with complete confidence in its safety and quality.

 Understanding Matcha Grades

The matcha industry uses several grade labels. Here is what they mean and how our collection maps to them:

Ceremonial Grade

Highest quality. Made from the youngest, most tender leaves (first harvest). Shade-grown, stone-milled, intended to be whisked with water and drunk straight. Vivid green, sweet, umami-forward with minimal bitterness. This is the standard for Matcha Provisions' primary line.

Premium | Culinary Grade

Premium: High quality, slightly more robust flavor. Excellent for lattes, oat milk preparations, or daily use. Lower price point without sacrificing authenticity. | Culinary Grade: Intended for baking, cooking, and high-heat applications. More bitter, less vibrant. Not what Matcha Provisions leads with — we note this for customer education only.

Why Ground-to-Order Matters

Matcha powder is extremely fine and has a large surface area. The moment it is milled, it begins to oxidize. Color dulls. Aroma fades. Flavor flattens.

Most matcha sold outside of Japan sits in warehouses for months at a time. We operate differently. Every order placed through Matcha Provisions triggers a fresh milling at the Ujitawara factory. Your tin is shipped within 5-7 business days and arrives as close to the milling as any matcha you can buy outside Japan.
